Radio Algerienne"s own shortwave transmitters were last reported in late 2000. These had carried
Algeria"s domestic services, Chaine 1 (Arabic), Chaine 2 (Tamazight), and Chaine 3 (French), as well the Radio Algiers International external service. In 2003, Bassil Ahmad Zoubi of the Arab States Broadcasting Union confirmed that Algiers had ceased shortwave broadcasts "until further notice" because of technical problems, according to a HFCC Report by Jeff White in a NASB Newsletter of that year.

It is the only SW radio station currently broadcasting from Algeria itself. The SW transmitter is located in the south-western Algerian town of Tindouf, near to the border with Western Sahara. This was reactivated in August 2006 after several months off-air. The station is also widely heard in Europe on MW 1550 and sometimes on 700 kHz.

Radio Nacional de Angola in Luanda currently has only two operational shortwave transmitters.
However, a representative of a US company called the LBA Group reported to Glenn Hauser"s DX Listening Digest in July 2006 that Radio Nacional de Angola is to get new shortwave transmitters. Glenn Swiderski says that LBA has sold to Angola two shortwave transmitters. Both are 25 kW made by Elcor. One is single frequency 4950 kHz; the other dual frequency 7245/11955 kHz.
There is no other SW broadcasting in Angola at the current time. For many years the UNITA rebel movement led by Jonas Savimbi had a radio station that was widely heard on SW. A Voz da Resistenia do Galo Negro (The Voice of the Resistence of the Black Cockerel) was located in Jambas, the UNITA stronghold in south-eastern Angola. It was last heard in 1999 just before the town was overrun by Angolan government troops. Savimbi was killed in 2002 and as such UNITA"s armed struggle against the ruling MPLA government ceased. More recently, the Luanda-based Catholic FM radio station Radio Ecclesia had been on shortwave broadcasting to Angola rather than from within it. Whilst their shortwave licence was pending approval by the Angolan government, they had initial unsuccesful tests via RNW Madagascar in 2000, before subsequently hiring airtime from DTK (via Juelich, Germany) in 2001-02 and Merlin Communications (via Sentech, Meyerton, South Africa) in 2002-03. Radio Ecclesia continues on FM in Angola.

①Radio Botswana is currently inactive on shortwave. Vashek Korinek in South Africa reported in January 2006 that Mr Kingsley Reetsang, Chief Engineer of Radio Botswana, had said that Radio Botswana is implementing a omprehensive network of FM transmitters all over the country. Once these are in place they will do the necessary measurements and assess the situation. If the FM and AM networks do not cover Botswana 100%, a return to shortwave will be considered, otherwise the shortwave broadcasts will be abandoned permanently. R Botswana"s past SW freqs have included: 3356 4820 7255 and 9595 kHz.

①布隆迪电台Radio Burundi is inactive on shortwave. The 100 kW transmitter at Gitega was last reported in mid-2003 on its long time SW frequency of 6140 kHz. They have also in the past operated with 25 kW on 3300 kHz. Burundi was also the home of Radio Cordac, a Protestant missionary radio service directed to listeners throughout Central Africa. Radio Cordac was silenced in 1977 when the Burundi government decided to no longer permit private radio stations.

Official shortwave broadcasting from Cameroon Radio & Television has ceased, as well as all regional broadcasting on shortwave. The main station at Yaounde was last heard in early 2000 on 4850 kHz.
Radio Free Southern Cameroons had broadcast in support of the Coalition of Southern Cameroons Liberation Movements.. Having started in October 2005, RFSC broadcasts were brokered by TDP via a 500 kW transmitter at Krasnodar in Russia. It was last heard on 15695 kHz during the A-06 period. A HFCC registration indicates 11840 kHz for B-06 but the station has not been reported .
In 2002 unauthorised broadcasts commenced from the Full Gospel Las Palmas Church over a 100 Watt transmitter on 6715 kHz usb (later 6719) with relays of Church Services for Korean seafarers in the Atlantic. These, however, were last reported in late 2003 and have not been heard since.
Radio Nacional de Cabo Verde (A Voz do Sao Vicente) was seemingly last reported in late 1989 on 3930 kHz from a 10 kW transmitter. The last entry for shortwave in the WRTH was in the 1991 edition where it stated that the station was inactive on 3930.1 kHz.

Note: Has reportedly been heard signing-on shortly after 0600 UTC and is believed to be a daytime operation. This transmitter has also operated in the past on 5035 kHz during early morning/evening. In late 2004/early 2005, Radio Centrafrique was relayed from TDF Issoudun in France from a 500 kW shortwave transmitter with domestic programming beamed back to the Central African Republic between 1700-2300 UTC on 9590 kHz with information leading up to elections in the country in May 2005.
In 1998, Radio MINURCA had been established by the UN in the Central African Republic to provide information to the public in the run-up to elections in the country. It operated initally from a main SW transmitter capable of 20 kW on 9900 kHz (this subsequently had technical problems and power was much reduced) and a low power transmitter of around 100 Watts on 5900/9500 kHz, as well as FM.
Radio MINURCA closed on 1st February 2000 and the equipment shipped to Sierra Leone for the UN mission there.The replacement for Radio MINURCA was Radio Ndeke Luka, established by the French-based Fondation Hirondelle with the intention of acting as a link between the UN, NGOs and the population. It commenced transmissions first on FM and then on SW in 2003 via a VT Communications-operated transmitter in the UK. The SW relay was cancelled in July 2005. but continues on FM in Bangui.

There is no regional shortwave broadcasting in Chad. Radio Moundou (5286 kHz) and Radio Abeche (5900 kHz) became inactive in the 1990"s.
Disputes with Libya and Sudan in the 1980"s saw the appearance of a few related radio stations and services, the most well-known probably being Radio Bardai which claimed to operate from the rebel-held stronghold at Bardai in northern Chad, but which actually originated from a Libyan-based SW transmitter.
Radio Comoro is inactive on shortwave. In September 1997, the Director of Radio Comoro confirmed that they had a technical problem and at that time hoped to be back on air "within two months". It appears that they have not been heard on shortwave since then. The last reported frequency was 3331 kHz, with 7260 kHz being an earlier daytime outlet.
There is currently no SW service from the national station of Radio Television Nationale Congolaise (RTNC) in Kinshasa. RTNC was last reported in late 1990"s on 15245v kHz from its 100 kW transmitter located at Kinshasa. Relays via an Africa No 1 transmitter in Gabon for coverage across the DRC began in early 2002 from 0400-0600 and 1600-1900 on 9770 kHz but were discontinued a year or so later.

cooperation aid.It began broadcasts in November 1989 on FM and shortwave (6910 kHz, 10 kW ) and
was closed in late 1993.

Voices from the Diaspora, a target broadcast in support of the Save the Gambia Democracy Project,
commenced operations via DTK Juelich with a weekly half-hour broadcast on Saturdays in June 2005.
These came to an end in March 2006 and it was reported that they would recommence broadcasts in
August or September 2006, but these have not yet materialised.

GBC Radio Ghana was merged into a single service in 2003. The breakdown of the Radio 1 transmitter
on 4915 kHz meant that the existing transmitter for Radio 2 had to be moved from 3366/6130 kHz to 4915 kHz. Radio 1 and Radio 2 were subsequently merged into a single service.
In April 2006 the remaining transmitter was repaired and reactivated, with a source at GBC reporting the following to BDXC"s Chris Greenway: "Our transmitter for the 4915 kHz was off air for some time because some spare parts had to be changed. We had the spare parts about a week ago and they have been fixed. At the moment there is a test transmission going on and all will return to normal very soon. Management is even contemplating buying a brand new transmitter and also another one with the view of resuming our External Service". The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation external service had been discontinued in the early part of the 1990"s.

WRTH was in the 1987 edition and by 1988 was reported as inactive. Its last frequency was 5475v kHz. Radiodiffusion Television Ivoirienne is inactive on shortwave. The domestic services “Chaine Une” and “Frequence Deux” had both been relayed on shortwave, along with an external service which included programming in English. Past frequencies included 4940 6015 and 11920 kHz, with 7215 kHz the last to be seemingly reported in late 1996.

Radio Lesotho, the Lesotho National Broadcasting Service is currently inactive on shortwave (last
scheduled frequency 4800 kHz).Vashek Korinek in South Africa reported in January 2006 that the Chief Engineer at Radio Lesotho had said that as their SW transmitter was over 20 years old it was getting almost impossible to obtain spares. However, Radio Lesotho would like to continue SW broadcasts and had planned to order a new transmitter when their financial year began in April 2006. These is no news to confirm that this happened.
BBC World Service relay station in Lesotho was opened in 1979 and closed on 30th September 1996,with shortwave transmissions switching to Meyerton in South Africa.

The station was silenced in 1990 when the first civil war broke out in Liberia, returning in August 1993 with a 10 kW shortwave transmitter. It again left the air in early 1996 when fighting broke out in Monrovia. The transmitter was stolen and subsequently used by Charles Taylor"s "Radio Liberia International". In 1995, ELWA took delivery of a 1937 vintage GE shortwave transmitter, a gift from KGEI. The transmitter was never installed due to the unrest in Liberia and was reportedly stripped of all parts and left unusable. ELWA"s current 1 kW shortwave transmitter, built by HCJB, was inaugurated in early 2000.

Within months their licence was suspended by the Liberian government and eventually the station left the air permanently. It resumed FM operations in May 2005, followed by a new shortwave relay via a VT Communications transmitter at Ascnesion Island.
In July 2005, the Liberian Observer reported that the Liberia Broadcasting System had launched a fund drive to obtain a shortwave transmitter in order to extend LBS broadcasts nationwide. The station"s main building has been in ruins since the 1990 civil crisis. Then Transitional Government Chairman Charles Gyude Bryant, launching the fund-raising awareness programme for the resuscitation of the station, said everything would be done to meet the needs of the station through its budgetary allotment.Other shortwave stations of recent years, such as Radio Liberia International (5100/6100 kHz) and Voice of Liberty, the shortwave project of WJIE in Kentucky (11515 kHz), are inactive. In the case of Voice of Liberty, their transmitter was the old High Adventure shortwave unit that used to be located in Southern Lebanon, near to the border with Israel.The Voice of America relay station in Liberia was abandoned during the civil war of 1990.

Libyan Radio"s own SW transmitters were withdrawn from service in early 2002 and replaced by hired
transmitters at Issoudun in France from the start of the A-02 season. However, in November 2006 two new shortwave transmitters at Sabrata were commissioned and are currently heard on 15235 and 15435.A non-stop Arabic music programme from Libyan Jamahiriyah Broadcasting was heard during the A-06 season, reportedly from a hired transmitter in the CIS. This broadcast on a frequency (i.e. 17660/17680)near to the Libyan opposition station Sawt al-Amal (see below). Not heard for B-06.Libyan Jamahiriyah Broadcasting has in the past also broadcast a programme in Arabic to Iraq,
believed to originate from transmitters in Libya itself.

In January 2006, Vashek Korinek reported that Mike Evans of NBC had told him that the NBC Board had not made any decision about the long term future of their shortwave (and mediumwave) operations. All equipment was still in place, but with it being over 20 years old some spares and repairs would be needed. NBC was likely to take the decision in the next three months or so, but Mike pointed out that NBC are financially very strapped at the moment. Note: West Africa Democracy Radio (WADR) is a trans-territorial radio station that aims to facilitate the exchange of development information between and among countries of West Africa including Chad and Cameroon. As a first phase, it targets mainly the Mano River Union (MRU) countries of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
A brainchild of the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA), WADR is conceived to be the hub of a West African network of public, private and community radio stations, creating an avenue for networking between these radio stations and a channel for dialogue among the peoples of the respective countries they serve. WADR is based in the Senegalese capital, Dakar, and has Country Offices in Freetown,Conakry and Monrovia. 塞拉利昂广播电台Sierra Leone Broadcasting Service is currently inactive on SW. It was last heard in 2002 on 3316 kHz.
联合国特派团电台Radio UNAMSIL (UN Assistance Mission in Sierra Leone) began a shortwave service in Sierra Leone
in April 2002. UNAMSIL successfully completed its mandate in December 2005, by which time the
shortwave service from a 1 kW transmitter (on 6139.1 kHz) had been discontinued.
Radio Al-Koran used to operate on shortwave with programming in Arabic, English, French, and several African languages (scheduled on 9630 kHz, 1500-1900) but appears to have gone off air during the civil war in the country. It is unclear whether any domestic radio stations are currently active on shortwave in Somalia. The last regularly reported station was Radio Shabelle (Mogadishu) on 6960 kHz in July 2006, whilst Radio Baidoa was tentativley reported on 6798 kHz in October 2006. Radio Galkacyo (in Puntland) on 6980v has not been reported for a while.
Radio Hargeisa (Voice of the Republic of Somaliland) has not been reported recently on shortwave
(last known frequency was 7530v kHz) and the online audio that was possible via their website no longer seems to be available.

National Democratic Alliance from a shortwave transmitter believed to be located in Eritrea. Its schedule was 1530-1600 on 8000v kHz, but it has not been reported recently and may be inactive.
Proposed new religious station on shortwave in Southern Sudan: on 31 December 2006, Jari
Savolainen posted the following to the DXLD Yahoo Group: "In mid-February 2007 a new religious station will be installed in Ezo, Sudan. The power will be 250 Watts. The frequency is 6.00 MHz so possibly 6000 kHz. No further details available at the moment.

Swazil Commercial Radio was a radio station is Swaziland that continued to use shortwave throughout
the 1990"s but its transmitters are now inactive. In January 2001, Hans Johnson of Cumbre DX quoted
Dario Bettencourt, station director of Radio Lusofonia, a Portuguese-language Christian broadcaster, as saying that Radio Cidade (a previous user of the SW transmitter) and SCR had been sold to the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God, a Brazil-based "church" that owned radio and TV stations in several countries. The SCR SW transmitter that had been on 6155 kHz was by then thought to be inactive.

South Africa. Its programming was in support of Togo opposition groups.
Radio Tristan da Cunha left shortwave in 1991 in favour of FM.

In the early 1980"s, Radio Uganda had operated an external service using two 250 kW shortwave
transmitters located at Soroti. However, this service was inactive by the end of the decade.
Dunamis Shortwave: on 31 December 2006, Jari Savolainen posted the following to the DXLD Yahoo
Group: "According to my sources a new religious station "Dunamis Shortwave" will start broadcasting
1 January 2007 on 4750 kHz. Located near Kampala, Uganda and using a 1 kW Crown transmitter with
wire NVIS antenna. Starts with 4 hrs/day in Luganda, Swahili and English. Later 9 hrs/day. No exact schedule available yet. Not too good frequency choice when Sudanese Radio Peace is on the channel too. I told them there will be co-channel interference and it seems they had forgot the Sudanese station being on this frequency."
Radio Rhino International-Africa, a Ugandan-opposition radio station broadcasting to Uganda from a hired-transmitter in Germany, has not been heard since the end of March 2006.

National Radio of the SADR began SW transmissions in 1993. It is the only SW radio station currently
broadcasting from Algeria itself. The SW transmitter is located in the south-western Algerian town of Tindouf, near to the border with Western Sahara. This was reactivated in August 2006 after several months off-air. The station is also widely heard in Europe on MW 1550 and sometimes on 700 kHz.
